About The 100 Lists Web Directory

Our aim is to create search engine friendly website directory that adheres to the W3C Web Standards. We want to help lead the World Wide Web to its full potential. Each directory category and website listing will have its own page, and this will generate higher valued links to your site.

The 100 Lists Web Directory lists the top 100 sites in each provided category. Each category is ranked by the amount of credit and the time at which that credit was added of each site. This is explained below...

Each site listing will be searchable even if their site is no longer on the list; so there is absolutely no reason why not to submit your site. Sure you have to pay more if you want to be higher on the list, but the Page Rank will be worth it!

How the lists work

Submission to The 100 Lists Web Directory open to all websites except those containing illegal or adult content and warez sites. There are more details on the submission pages.

Initially, all websites are listed by category in the order they were submitted with the oldest appearing first.

Once a site is accepted into this web directory, sites have the ability to gain additional exposure in a number of ways.

Popularity: The top 10 most popular sites are listed on the Popular Sites page. Visitors to The 100 Lists determine a site's popularity by the number of clicks a listed site receives.

Top Referers: The top 10 referrers will also appear on the Popular Sites page. Sites appearing on this list have placed a reciprocal link on their website and the top 10 are being recognized for their support of The 100 Lists. Specific information on placing a link on your site is included in your member area.

Referral links also reveal the referring site as the featured link on the front page of the directory.

Bidding: Initially, placement on the home page of this web directory and within each category is based upon submission order. Through the bidding process, website owners can have their site listed higher in their category and possibly on the home page of The 100 Lists. (All bids are in Australian dollars)

Website owners can affect where their site is listed for as little as $3.00 (current minimum).

If the site listed first in your category has bid $3.00 to be listed first, you would need to only bid $3.01 in order to take over first position and move the other site to the number two position.

Additionally, if your bid is one of the top 10 bids across all categories, your site will also be listed on the home page of The 100 Lists Web Directory and gain a valuable link for your website.

If two sites should happen to bid the same amount, whoever paid first will be listed first.

You may make bids for any amount over the minimum amount (currently $3.00). You do not have to bid higher than the number one site within your category. For example, if the number 1 site bid $7.00 and the number 2 site bid $3.00, a bid of $3.01 would put you in the second place and move the former number 2 site down to number 3.

Bids need not be renewed and remain in effect permanently.

If you wish to increase your bid, you only need pay for the amount of the increase (the top up amount). For example, if your current bid is $5.00 and you wished to raise it to $9.00; you would only need to pay an additional $4.00.

When your site gets close to the bottom of the list the system will notify you and you will be able to login and add to you payment pushing you back up the list.

Bidding for site placement is entirely up to you. Should you wish not to participate, your website will not be penalized (other than being listed lower in the results). All accepted submissions are indexed and searchable, listed in the appropriate category within the directory, and will have their own listings page.
